From the information that I received from the factory this gun was made in 1897 on what was then the Sovereign style action with two under lug locks and the patented Greener cross bolt. This gun is in remarkably fine condition for its age retaining a good amount for original colors on the frame, approximately 50%, 70% faded bluing on the barrels. The 27” Wrought steel barrels have very strong, mirror bright bores & chambers; an express sight with one standing and two folding blades cut and regulated for 100, 200 & 300 yards with a fixed front sight. The stock has a 15 1/8” LOP over an Old English 1” solid red pad; if you look very close you might be able to see a very fine crack around the safety that must have been repaired many, many years ago and remains very stable. Prooved for .577 black powder; 2 ¾” case, 520 grain bullet and 160 grains of black powder. Recent casting of the chamber confirms the original 2 ¾” length. Cased in what appears to be the original oak/canvas/leather luggage case that is all there but the bottom, left edge leather has come loose. Beautiful, vintage big bore double rifle that is ready for your next safari. Weighs 10 lbs. 9 oz. Top of case is marked “R B Rice RA” $11,500.00 SN: 46332 SOLD Antique: Yes |
