LONG-BARRELED Antique STEVENS “Pocket Rifle”
In Rare .30 Rimfire Chambering
Here we present an antique J. Stevens & Company Pocket Rifle, manufactured circa 1872 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. About 8,000 were produced, this one in rare .30 Rimfire. This pistol was considered one of the most accurate target pistols of the day and would have originally come with an attachable wire stock. It features a 15-1/8-inch bull barrel and a weighted pommel for balance. There is also a spur for the middle finger on the trigger guard. The action is single action only with a crisp trigger.
The left side of the barrel is marked “J.STEVENS&CO.CHICOPEE/FALLS MASS.PAT.SEPT.6.1864”.
The overall condition is good. The blue barrel has turned a nice plum patina. The nickel frame has 80% of its original finish. The markings are clear and legible. Serial numbers match. The grips are in great shape. The bore is dark and nearly smooth. The action on this rifle is strong. Extractor is absent.
