Description:
Description:  This is a smooth bore flintlock musket dated 1815. It has a rampant lion on the side plate, which was the mark of the East India Company, and a crown over a 3. (I think indicating that this weapon had been bought by the British and returned to England for issue to its soldiers.) It has a 41” barrel of .75 caliber. (A common caliber for smooth bore muskets in both the U.S. and Europe.) These muskets were made and kept in the white, so it still has its original finish. The barrel is pinned to the walnut stock instead of using barrel bands as was the usual practice in the U.S. ( except for a few militia contracts). It has a brass fore end cap. The action is fully functional and has a flint installed. The stock is in good condition, just showing some feathering where it meets the barrel and the lock fit is somewhat open. This is an interesting piece of history and who knows what stories it could tell. This gun is very similar to the “Brown Bess” muskets used by British in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. (In fact, some were returned East India Co. weapons.) According to the International Military Arms , this particular weapon was known as the “Windus” pattern musket. There is a picture of one on their which is identical to this gun. (://britishmilitariaforums.yuku/topic/13282/Flintlock-Muskets-of-the-EIC-1771-to-1839#.UuhVYrTnZVc)

I have found prices for these weapons from about $3,500 up to $6,000. I got a good buy on this weapon and am passing it along.
