FINE S&W .38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model Revolver
Featuring Beautiful Stag Grips
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless 4th Model Revolver, manufactured circa 1887 in Springfield, Massachusetts. They were also known as the “New Departure” or the “Lemon Squeezer”, the latter due to the safety bar on the backstrap. This little revolver holds 5 shots of .38 S&W. It was designed to meet the defensive needs of citizens and law enforcement in the late 19th Century. This is a top break design with an automatic ejector, hammerless design and grip safety. These features made it great for pocket carry.
This S&W Revolver features a beautiful blue finish with stag grips. The left side of the barrel is marked “.38 S&W CTG”. The top of the barrel is marked ‘SMITH&WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A./PAT’D OCT.2.1880, AUG.4.1885, APRIL.9.1889”.
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is nearly complete. The case colors on the trigger are vibrant. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The stag grips are fine. The bore is pristine, sharp and bright. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic .38 S&W Lemon Squeezer with lots of panache!
