Description:
BIG 1909 U.S. ARMY .45 COLT NEW SERVICE REVOLVER. These were built to give the army a powerful, man-stopping handgun after the failure of the previous .38 Colt chambered double action revolvers that failed so miserably in the Philippines. This is a fine example that I believe may have been arsenal refinished. I say this because the original finish on this model was a very bright commercial blue. This one has a duller blue look to it even though all the markings are sharp, including the rampant colt on the frame etc. Excellent bright fire blue on the trigger and hammer back. Shows only minor age and edge wear to the finish. Has the correct “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” marking on the bottom of the barrel along with the also correct “R.A.C.” inspection stamping on the back of the cylinder, bottom of the walnut grips and right side of the frame. Fine+ grips, very tight action and bright sharp bore. This is a really handsome example.
