LANCASTER Antique HENRY GIBBS Flintlock PA Rifle
Full-Stock Flintlock Pennsylvania Long Rifle
Here we present an antique Henry Gibbs Signed Lancaster Long Rifle, manufactured circa the 1830s in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Henry Gibbs Gunsmiths in Lancaster, PA was a father and son team. The elder built rifles circa 1812 to 1843 and the son was active until 1880. Gibbs was one of four gunmakers in Lancaster to be contracted by the American Fur Company to produce rifles for the growing American West.
This flintlock rifle features a beautiful, full-length striped maple stock with an ornate patchbox that opens with a button. There are decorative escutcheons around the barrel wedges, on the barrel, and butt plate. The stock is hand carved around the wrist. The top of the barrel is marked “H. GIBBS”. The lock is marked “DREPPERD/LANCASTER”.
The overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is very nice, clean with strong rifling. The action on this rifle is excellent. Here is a beautiful, signed Pennsylvania Rifle from Lancaster!
