Description:
This is a unique Civil War, Texas, Confederate belt rig constructed to the personal specifications of the user. It consists of what looks like part of a horses bridal for use as a hanger of some sort; a cap box with remnants of wool lining inside; a holder for a flint striker including the original flint striker made from a rasp; there's another small leather holder made for some unknown thing but it's now missing; and the best thing about this rig in my opinion is that it comes with the original Bowie knife & scabbard with a hanger specifically made for this scabbard. The scabbard was probably arsenal made as it has a "C1" stamped on the reverse of the brass throat that has a clip that fits into a slot on the hanger; finally it has it's original, Texas lone star brass buckle. It's fastened onto the leather belt by two arrow shaped prongs bent over pieces of cloth between the leather. Buckle is an authentic civil war buckle, any possibility of it being a repro is zero.

This is not a belt rig that has had things added on over the years. It's all completely original with no add-ons which you can easily prove by trying to take something off. Nothing can be removed accept for the scabbard and it clearly belongs with the hanger. The Bowie knife was an old kitchen knife with an altered blade featuring a clipped (Texas clip) point with avery sharp false edge. ALSO: The corners of the wood handle have been slightly altered to form a "coffin hilt" (reminescent of the early guardless coffin-hilt Bowies of the 1830's) and had a hole drilled for a lanyard. Scabbard swivels so it can be slanted for an easy  right-handed cross draw. Very nice authentic Texas rig.

One of Terry's or Terrell's Texas Rangers come to mind as a likely candidate for an owner of this belt as they were required to provide their own equiptment such as guns and knives, I think the only thing they were provided with was horses.

Condition is very good overall. All leather parts are supple with no tears or damage and Bowie knife is nice and tight as well as the sheath. Flint striker has original cloth attached for pulling it out of it's holder.
