Description: Scarce Winchester Model 1886 rifle, antique made in 1894, in caliber 38-70. Of the 159,996 guns manufactured in this model, only 830 were made in this caliber, equaling only 0.6% of production. This is a standard 26" octagon barrel, full magazine, crescent butt with correct turned-down toe, correct rear sight with elevator and Lyman #4 "Hunting" front sight. Rifle also has special order single set trigger and will letter as such - see last picture of Cody email verification sheet. Overall a solid rifle. All metal surfaces have turned to a mix of patina or gray with some plum at the last 4 inches of the mag tube and in the protected areas of the mag tube. Stocks are solid, no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished, still very tight, just minor typical usage dings as expected. Action is clean and crisp. Half cock safety functions normally. Set trigger functions normally also and adjusting screw is present. Bore is better than average for a black powder era rifle. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Rifling is worn but consistent from breech to muzzle with typical light scattered black powder corrosion and very little frost, still fairly bright, no craters, no rings, no gouges and no bulges. Should shoot fine after inspection by a competent gunsmith. All in all a very solid, untouched special order 1886 rifle in a scarce caliber that is sure to make a great addition to your collection and gain value over time.
