1850s Antique COMBINATION Rifle & Shotgun
Great Hunting Gun for the American Frontier
Here we present an antique Percussion Rifle & Shotgun Side by Side Combination Gun, manufactured circa the mid-19th Century. This gun features a .36 caliber rifled barrel next to a .70 caliber smoothbore barrel. The advantage of having a single firearm that can fire two types of cartridges designed for rifled and smoothbore barrels is that a single gun can be used to hunt a very wide variety of game from deer to fowl and the shooter can choose the barrel appropriate for the target in seconds. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead.
This firearm features fine engraving throughout, including a patchbox, decorative deer-shaped escutcheon, and trigger guard with finial.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The stock is in good shape. The bores are in good shape. The barrel rib is separating. The action is functional.
