The Jaeger was the precursor to the American Long Rifle, commonly known as the Kentucky Long Rifle. These were thoroughly Germanic in design and use. As Germans migrated to the New World they brought their craftsmanship with them. These very efficient firearms evolved over time to meet the demands of American frontiersman. This is a fantastic example of a Jaeger with a high level of craftsmanship to include a full-length stock carved throughout. The butt stock is quite wide but not heavy due to the deep patch box with a carved wooden sliding cover. A compass rose is mounted into the generous cheek piece on the left side. The brass hardware is beautifully engraved: the trigger guard with a leaping stag, the top of the butt plate with an eagle. The barrel flares slightly at the muzzle and has large, grooved rifling all the way down. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The stock is in great shape. The bore is clear and well rifled. The action on this rifle will hold half-cock but slips off the full-cock notch. Nevertheless, here is a very practical and efficient Germanic rifle with lots of history that is just as much art and weapon. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30-1/2 inches. Caliber: .65 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
