Description:

ARRIETA PHEASANT MODEL (Phasianus Model 803) Self-Opening Sidelock Ejector 28 Ga 2 ¾” 28”bl., (IC/M) Excellent Plus, Cased

A BEST GUN:
ARRIETA’s MODEL 803 is a hand-made 7-pin sidelock side-by-side Best Gun.  The locks are Holland & Holland pattern sidelocks. Any Arrieta model number 600 and above is a Best Gun, a clone of the Holland & Holland Royal.  The specific number just indicates the style of engraving; in the 803’s case – it is the Purdey pattern of rose and scroll engraving (see full list below).* Try to find another Eibar-made double side-by-side with an assisted opener and a Factory single non-selective trigger; there are very few and priced much higher accordingly.

Metal: Consists of Arrieta’s beautiful color case-hardened finished receiver with the finest Purdey-style rose and scroll hand-engraving by the Eibar master -- Eduardo Aramburu.  It also features Holland & Holland  Southgate selective (or automatic) ejectors, intercepting safety sears, bushed strikers, factory single trigger, gas escape valves, auto-safety, chrome-lined chopper lump barrels with a solid Churchill style pyramid rib, and Holland & Hollland Assisted Opening.  (The hand-detachable locks are not offered for guns in 410 and 28 gauges.) This is serial number 34365. The 28” deeply blued barrels have fixed chokes in the classic tradition: IC (.012) and M (.022). The blued trigger guard is engraved with a gold Arrieta logo of a stylized fluer-de-lis in a gold circle.

Stock: AAA Turkish walnut buttstock and forearm are hand checkered in  point pattern,  24 lpi – double border with drop points (tear drops), and a checkered butt (skip-line) in the English style: straight-hand stock while the forearm is a very-well designed semi-beavertail design that wraps the barrels without being two wide (similar to that found on a Piotti King).  The forearm features an Anson push-button release set in an engraved and inlaid forearm tip escutcheon.  The stock is inlaid with a gold oval ready for the owner’s initials and is cast off for the right hand. Measurements: 1½” x
2” x 14 ½" 5 lbs 14 oz.

Description and Condition:
The AAA Turkish Walnut has near-exhibition grade figure, great color and contrast and looks stunning and clean against Arrieta’s color case-hardened frame and deep blue barrels.  This gun is excellent plus with stock and forearm at 98%, bluing at 99%, case colors at 99%, showing very minimal use.  This gun is in overall outstanding condtion. It is cased in its factory leather case.

Eibar Spain Guns:
Avelino Arrieta and his sons have stood out as premier gun makers located in the Eibar region of Spain, the Pantheon of Spanish gun makers. In this Basque country of northern Spain, Eibar gun makers have become world famous for the best value in “Best Gun” quality sidelock actions for side-by-side shotguns.  In the last three decades, even London gun makers have carried lines of Eibar guns.

All of these Basque-made Best Guns are internally a copy of the Holland & Holland Royal, with H&H Southgate ejectors, H&H Assist Opening (except AyA #1), H&H Hand-detachable sidelocks, bushed strikers, and Chopper Lump barrels.

This Model 803 is like getting a copy of a Holland & Holland Royal but with Purdey engraving, the best of both worlds.  And there is no better Eibar-made gun.  This includes the top of the line Grulla RL Supreme, Garbi Armes 103B, and the recently discontinued Arrizabalaga, although all three of those guns are and were priced much higher.

The MSRP for the Model 803 is $14,320 in the Blue Book 37th Edition, add 10% ($1.432) for small gauges, add $1,670 for the single trigger, $990 for the beavertail forearm. $350 for the inlaid monogram oval… which would bring the total to $18,762 for a new gun.  The Blue Book shows a deduction of 27% for a 98% condition, which would bring this to $13,696.

Priced here to move, this is a great buy for $9,450 with single trigger, the forearm upgrade, and the factory leather case.
