Description:

SOLD  **  Piotti King English Sidelock Ejector Best 12 Ga., 28" Single Trigger- Brigoli engraved

Excellent Plus

F.lli Piotti, SxS, Italian Master Engraver Bregoli* Purdey style of Rose & Scroll engraving, 12 Ga., 28”, 2 ¾”, Modified (.019) & Full (.038), Single Trigger, Straight Grip, Semi-beavertail Forearm, Ejectors, Smooth Concave Rib, Coin Finish Receiver, a true 7-Pin Sidelock Ejector action. Leather-covered recoil pad, cased. This gun is a clone of a Holland & Holland Royal and is virtually new.

A BEST GUN: Fratelli Piotti is located in the pantheon of the world’s best gun makers in Italy, in the province of Brescia, in Gardone Val Trompia. They are widely respected not only as one of Italy’s top gunmakers, but one of the world’s top gunmakers.

Metal: This Piotti is standard with traditional features of the highest quality gun with beaded fences, chopper lump chrome-lined barrels, automatic ejectors, H&H high-grade double seared sidelocks with single non-selective trigger, H&H Southgate ejectors, intercepting sears, bushed strikers, gas escape valves, and manual safety (to give the shooter control). These are features generally found on Boss's, Purdey's and Holland & Holland Royal grade guns which new cost between 100K and 200K!

Finish is Piotti’s beautiful polished coin-finished receiver with pierced top lever and engraved with the finest Purdey-style rose and scroll hand engraving by the Italian master engraver, Bregoli (signed), with a polished concave rib separating the deep rust blue barrels.

Try to find another single trigger side by side, there are very few. This is serial number 5840.

Stock: French walnut buttstock has strong figure with dark and light tones from warm brown to handsome black streaks with some fiddle back and marble-cake. The wrap-around checkering on the semi-beavertail forearm is executed flawlessly by hand in point pattern, 26 lpi – with fine double borders and the forearm face has a diamond pattern inlaid with the Piotti crest indicative of the King model, and an inlaid Anson forearm release in the forearm tip escutcheon. The butt is hand-checkered with a wrap-around pattern which flawlessly surrounds the inlaid trigger guard tang that ends with an ornamental spear head. The stock has the traditional drop points (tear drops) – which is all classic English styling with straight-hand stock and fitted with an inlaid monogram oval. Measurements: 1 1/2” x 2” x 14 1/4" with ¼” cast off for the right hand. Weight 7 lbs 4 oz.

Condition:
The pleasing figure and great color of the French Walnut contrasts stunningly with the clean polished coin-finished frame and deep blue barrels. The blue remains 99%, Wood at 99%, and checkering is 100%.  The bores are “as new” and the barrels remain tight on face. Lockup feels like shutting a vault door.

About the Engraver: Giuseppe Bregoli was one of a trio of master engravers in Gardone Italy that Giancarlo Pedretti studied under.  The other two were Angelo Bagliani and Stefano Tononcelli.  This trio was considered three of the greatest engravers of their time.  While the engraving for this shotgun follows the conservative layout (consequently does not show the engraver’s creativity), the fact that this world class pattern is done by Bregoli means that it is as fine a presentation of this type of engraving as any in the world.

About the Maker: The production at Fratelli Piotti is limited to a small number of handcrafted, best quality, double barrel shotguns and rifles, approximately 100 per year. Each gun is made with perfect balance and according to William Larkin Moore,
“the result is an elegant gun that is one of the best six or eight guns produced in the world today. Undoubtedly, they are the best for the price.”
Each action is fashioned from a solid billet of Boehler steel in the House of Fratelli Piotti with traditional tools using the building method that has been the same for the past two centuries. Craftsmanship is to the most exacting specifications, assuring every gun meets the most demanding standards. This predominance of the handmade comes out magnificent in each single detail, from the 7-pin sidelocks to the inletting of the wood. The action and tang are integral. The locks and barrels are made in house.

On all models, the action size, gun proportions and weight are proportional to the gauge. The quality of the shaping, checkering, stock, action and barrel-work even exceeds the standards achieved by the great London gunmakers prior to WWII.

The MSRP of the Piotti King English model is $42,800 as of November 2017. Add $3,720 for single trigger, $795 for drop points, $600 for beavertail forearm, $1,215 for gold crest inlay, $945 for gold oval, and $2,030 for leather case bringing the grand total to $ 52,105.

Priced here to move, at $27,750, this excellent plus gun comes with leather case and accessories as shown.
