Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extremely proud to offer this seldom seen early Colt rimfire cartridge 1862 Police made with the fluted cylinder. I could find no other such gun for sale, and you know what that does to collector value. This revolver saw some use, but is in good condition, especially considering its over 145 years old. These were not conversion guns, per se, but Colt factory made .38 rimfire cartridge guns made from original and factory altered percussion parts. This early gun, bearing serial number 446, was made using the traditional deep fluted cylinder found on the percussion version of the 1862 Police. The loading lever cutouts are filled, an ejector and loading gate installed, and was fitted with an offset elongated firing pin designed to strike the rim of the cartridge. This wheel gun has seen some use, showing some light pitting from black powder exposure. The frame lockup is tight, and the action works well with fairly good lockup. The 4 1/2 inch barrel sports the Colt New York address, and has a modified post front sight, and hammer notch for a rear sight. The bore has some shine and distinct rifling. All visible serial numbers match, along with the wedge and one piece walnut grips. As in later models, the arbor and loading gate have a matching assembly number. The wood is also in good condition, with a few scrapes and losses to varnish. I see the fine folks over at Merz Antiques have a very nice engraved version with mismatched numbers for 18,500 dollars, and it still doesn't have the fluted cylinder! If you have been looking for the right Colt cartridge "conversion", but want the added clout of an ejector and fluted cylinder, then look no further.
