Description:
None Finer! Here's an exceedingly scarce transition style Winchester Model 70 .300 Magnum (H&H) in mint original condition with undrilled rear receiver bridge. The S/N is 84*** indicating a manufacture date of 1948. The scribed S/N on bolt body matches receiver. The barrel length is 26". Bore and mechanics are as new. All factory components such as sight assemblies, swivels, hood, etc. are present and correct.
So called "transition" 70s were only produced for an approximate 3 year period between 1946-1948, bridging the gap between pre WWII and typical "pre 64" production, often incorporating features from either era. They are somewhat scarce in any of the available calibers, and especially so in 300 Mag. This particular rifle has the unique "clam shell" safety  issued only to the transition styles, and retains the "clover leaf" shaped receiver tang of it's pre war predecessor. The rear receiver bridge is smooth topped (unrecessed and unmatted) which would continue through remainder of production, but remains UNDRILLED, which is correct for these early post war Magnum calibers.
This is a very difficult rifle to locate, in a condition which would be virtually impossible to upgrade.
