Description:
Original 1863 Sharps SRC, .50/70, matching serial numbers, bright shiny bore, Lawrence sight, nice wood, tight action. This carbine was Issued to Pvt. John Gorman, Company "I", 13th New York Cavalry. Pvt. Gorman enlisted August 28th, 1863 for a 3 year term and survived the Civil War. The 13th New York served in Virginia and around Washington D.C. and often clashed with Confederate cavalry under the famous "Gray Ghost", Col. John Singleton Mosby. In fact,it was a soldier of the 13th New York that shot and wounded Col. Mosby on Dec. 21st, 1864. The wound was pronounced mortal but Mosby survived, and lived until 1916.
