Description:
Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action .38/40 Sporting Rifle with Factory 24 inch #2 Barrel. There is no serial number on the lower tang and there never was. No serial number on the lower tang indicates the rifle was shipped back to the factory for "R&R" (return and repair). The lower tang consisting of the Trigger Group was replaced with a new one, the serial number was not replaced. I have had several of these over the past 40 years, George Madis provided me with the explanation. Overall condition of this rifle is very good with 30-40% of the original factory blue found on protected areas of the receiver , barrel and magazine. Very surprising the bore is near perfect. Bright and shiny from muzzle to breach. The bore will rate a 9.5 on a 1 to 10 scale. It is possible the barrel was also replaced during the R&R? The action is mechanically perfect, tight and smooth. Wood to metal fit is perfect with no evidence of sanding. On the right lower butt stock I see a hairline crack possibly only a very light scratch? Does not go through to the left side of the stock. Surprisingly above average Third Model 1873. Will make a great shooter. Please phone Tommy at (760)-912-3761 or e-mail all questions and concerns.  $40.00 shipping. Insurance will be additional.
