This is a handsome rifle, built sometime around 1920, and retains 85-90% of the original blue finish with some gray fading at the muzzle, as well as along the underside of the frame. The lever retains a commensurate amount of the original color case-hardening, with the balance faded to mottled gray. The walnut stock and matching-numbered forend are in fine shape with scattered minor handling marks and surface blemishes. The wood has an added varnish, but never sanded, and lies level with the metal. The lock-up is tight, and the rifle functions flawlessly. The rifle is housed in a period, leg-o’-mutton style, rectangular leather case with white linen lining. The case is in fine shape, although the interior has stained over time. This is a great example of a desirable Model 1899H, and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
