This first year production 1989 Colt Double Eagle .45 ACP pistol is in nearly-new condition and comes complete with the original box and the owner's manual and paperwork. This was a low-production model that was only in full production for 6 years from 1990 to 1996 according to the Blue Book. This example was one of the first year guns made in 1989 according to Colt's serial number records but it does have a de-cocking lever, making it unique as 1st year guns are not supposed to have it. This pistol just came out of long term storage where it has resided for the last 10 to 20 years minimum. The stainless steel finish is flawless, showing no wear marks or scratches and leads us to believe it was test fired only. It was stored in the original box and as such the exterior of the box is in great shape as well, however, the Styrofoam insert it lay in melted slightly from being in contact with whatever gun oil was on the right grip and stuck to it in places. We were able to remove the vast majority of this residue on the right grip but did not remove every bit of it, with a little elbow grease and patience the new owner should be able to make it perfect. You can see this in the close-up picture of the right grip panel, as it sits now it looks excellent. The bore in this Double Eagle .45 is minty and bright, with no pitting or visible imperfections of any kind. The internals are just as clean as the exterior and show no wear either. This was not one of Colt's more popular models and as mentioned previously production was limited, making this a great bet to be a good long term investment. If you have been looking for one of these somewhat oddball pistols you would be hard pressed to find a better one for the money!
