Description:
Extraordinarily Rare Original Col. Samuel Colt Factory Presentation Book Casing containing a Rare Factory Engraved Colt 1862 Police in the rare blue/color case hardened finish. This set is truly the “Holy Grail” in the Colt collecting world, only 11 or 12 originals are known to exist at this time, cases that contain the 1862 Police model represent only about 4 or 5 of that total number of 12. This Book Casing is absolutely stunning, condition is very fine. Original lining is present inside. The .36 caliber bullet mold is near mint and would rate at 98%. It doesn’t appear to have ever been used. The powder flask is also exceptional and would rate at about 65% original finish with very small and minor almost unnoticeable marks on the back of the flask. The casing contains 2 original packs of bullets that are sealed and in exceptional condition. The cap tin is on the rougher side but isn’t to bad. Exterior of the casing shows absolutely gorgeous burgundy leather, gold, and bright/clear original color, front, back, and spine. Only 2 book cases are known to have the recipients name on the spine. The Colt 1862 Police inside the case is an absolutely beautiful gun. The gun is finished in the rarer to find blue and case hardened finish. The Engraving is absolutely done by the hand of the master Gustave Young. Overall style of the Engraving is known as the Late Vine Scrollwork that features a mystical eagle head on the left barrel. The grips are an absolutely beautiful pair of Checkered Ivories. Grips have no damage to them whatsoever. Serial number 30,7** E. All serial numbers match, including the grip and wedge. The action works excellent and locks up tight. Finish wise the barrel retains approximately 75% original blue, the frame itself has approximately 75% faded case colors, stronger on the recoil shield and in sheltered places. The loading lever shows strong traces throughout. The cylinder retains nearly 50% original blue. The silver on the guard shows beautiful Engraving with approximately 45% remaining. The bore is very good with minor putting on a couple spots. Provenance includes as following: Ex) William Meyers Collection; Eric Vaule; The Collection of Steve Ardia. James D. Julia 2016, lot number 2109A with estimate of $75,000-110,000. This set is truly an honor to own, some of the most prestigious Colt collections in the world have never owned or even been offered a chance to purchase an Incredibly rare book cased Colt simply because they just can’t find any! This is by the numbers to exist, over 100 times rarer then a Walker and a Paterson. This is truly one of the better known examples and absolutely The Greatest Rarity in Colt Collecting. Shipping will be by overnight service and will be charged actual cost plus insurance.
