Description:

PAIR of CIVIL WAR Antique Remington Army REVOLVERS

Civil War Production with Nice Case and Accessories

Here we present an antique Pair of Two Civil War Remington New Model Army Revolvers, Encased with Accoutrements, made circa 1864 in Ilion, New York. The Remington New Model was Colt’s biggest competition for military contracts during the American Civil War. This pistol saw continued use for the next 20 years, especially famously in the American West. The pistol saw action in the Indian Wars and on buffalo hunts and was used by such legends as William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, who said about the New Model “It never failed me.”

Indeed, the Remington New Model Army was a well-made firearm, and rightly made for stiff competition against Colt. These examples are no exception. The solid frame design would eventually win the day as more rugged than Colt’s “open top” style so that Colt would also adopt this feature with their Single Action Army in 1873. Inspector’s marks are found all over. The top of each barrel is marked “PATENT SEPT. 14.1858/REMINGTON & SONS ILION.NEW YORK.U.S.A/NEW-MODEL”.

These come in a custom case with a purple felt lining. It is nicely compartmentalized to hold the various accoutrements such as Eley & UMC percussion cap tins, a fine American Flask & Cap Co. powder flask, .44 caliber bullet mold, nipple wrench tool, case key, and numerous .44 caliber lead bullets. This is a very nice set that would look great on display in an office or study.

The overall condition is very good. Even gray patinas are found on both revolvers. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The walnut grips are in good shape. Both bores are semi-bright with strong rifling. The actions on these revolvers are excellent. Here is a chance to own an impressive pair of Civil War antique Remingtons that will be sure to start many a conversation!
