Markings: The lock plates are marked “Joseph Lang” with light scroll engraving. The undersides of the barrels are marked with London proofs, the Crown over “V” the Crown over “GP” “J.L” “TP” and “1267”. The top rib is marked “Joseph Lang Haymarket London”.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a small steel bead front sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece stock is a beautiful dark walnut. There is fine checkering along the straight wrist and the forestock. There are some minor age related handling marks along the buttstock. The LOP is 14 1/2” (From the front trigger)
Type of Finish: Original Gloss on the wood, showing a depth of figuring and character to the walnut, vivid color case hardened on the metalwork, retaining +85% of its original finish and a rich plum brown on the Damascus barrel that is very exquisite.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bores are bright.
Overall Condition: This shotgun is in excellent condition with minor are related wear. The mechanics function flawlessly and it is a stunning piece of craftsmanship. The level of detail in the engraving, checkering and Damascus are outstanding.

Our Assessment: This is a beautifully made and well preserved English shotgun with London proofs which date this Black powder shotgun to approximately pre-1855. Joseph Lang guns are very desirable and this is an excellent example of his early work. This is definitely a fine addition to any collection.
