Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin octagon barrel in 38-40 caliber. Here is a very nice collector grade 1889 Marlin. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel. It is in my favorite caliber 38-40. This is the best shooting caliber for these pistol round rifles. They are very accurate. S/N 76243 and made in 1892. The bore is excellent. Bright and shiny with just a little frosting in the groves. Very strong and deep rifling. NO rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent as well. Both hammer notches are perfect and not worn or broken as most of these 1889 are found. I have to repair just about every one of these I get in but this one is perfect. Still ejects also. This gun shoots great as would be expected. This gun still retains the original front and rear sights. This gun has a lot of original finish as you can see. A little cloudy here today so the blue does not show up in my photos as bright as if the sun was shining but I think you can see good enough to know this is a very nice Marlin. The barrel has about 60% bright but very slightly thinning blue. Thinned out on the edges and the carrying point behind the rear sight. The mag tube holding just trace under the barrel where protected. The receiver has about 10% to 15% thin blue on both sides. Some thinning bright blue on top of the receiver also. NO pitting on this gun at all. All the markings are excellent.... Looks like a S,S. number or something VERY lightly scratched in the bottom of the left side receiver.{see photo}.. It is not deep and mostly into the finish and not the metal itself. Could be easily removed but you would remove some of the finish so best left as it is. I am not touching it... The lever even still shows some case colors... All the screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up. The wood is fantastic on this gun. The forearm fits very tight and proud in places to the metal. Never sanded on or messed with. Still shows very good traces of original varnish. NO splits, cracks or chips. Just a couple very minor handling dings. The butt stock is excellent as well. Fits very tight and full to the metal. NO splits, cracks or chips. Just has a few honest and minor dings and scratches. Just really great wood on this gun. Shows absolutely no sanding or abuse. All in all, this a super nice looking 89 marlin. The metal and wood show very little wear and the bore is excellent. The mechanics are excellent. Very nice gun for the money. I know the number scratched on the receiver hurts the value a little bit but this is just somethings that happens to these guns over the years. I have seen dozens if not more just like it and always wondered why in the hell would anyone do this ???? It is what it is my friends. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. If you are interested in this gun. CALL ME !!!! I get so many calls on these guns AFTER they have sold...
