Edmund Fitzgerald was the namesake of the Great Lakes freighter that was immortalized in the Gordon Lightfoot song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Edmund came from a prominent family of ship captains and was chairman of the board of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. His son, Edmund B.
