French MILITARY M1822 PERCUSSION Conversion Pistol
Early 19th Century French Military Pistol
Here we present an antique French Chatellerault Military Model 1822 Percussion Conversion Pistol, made circa the 1820s at the Chatellerault Arsenal in 19th Century France. In 1816, the French Artillery Commission decided to create a new government manufactory in Chatellerault. In 1822, in parallel with swords production, the fabrication of firearms started and continued to produce firearms until it ceased operations in 1968. This pistol was used by the French cavalry from 1822 until the end of the Crimean War in March of 1856. This pistol was originally equipped with a flintlock firing system and updated to the more modern and reliable percussion system, circa the 1840s. It has also been shortened long ago to make it more handy, almost certainly once retired from military service or perhaps even captured.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The stock is in good shape with an old stable split on the left side. The bore is smooth and in good shape. The action is strong.
