RARE 1ST YEAR 3 DIGIT S/N COLT LIGHTNING MODEL 1877 3.5" DOUBLE ACTION D.A. .38LC REVOLVER, CIRCA 1877. Serial number "17X". With matching frame, triggerguard, cylinder and birdshead grip. Factory wood grip panels(1st year guns had these) with recut checkering with NO losses and excellent inletting. Screws all original. Dark patina but never refinished with hammer still having most of it's original blue. Barrel address and patent dates still crisp. Suprisingly excellent bore and rifling along with same cylinder. Correct small half moon nickel silver front sight. Cycles, forwards cylinder, sear catches and fires but hammer does not return to forward position so like many of these needs some TLC. Rare to find one this early that has not been refinished. Everyone knows the Lightning is a tricky mechanism inside so considering this, it's a good project on a gun that has NOT been refinished.
