Description:
Serial #20526, .45-70, 32" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a nice rifle that retains about 75-80% of the original blue finish on the barrel with a mellow plum-brown patina forming on the balance. There is a single, old vise mark on the top of the barrel breech, and the frame has a dark plum-brown patina with about 50-60% original blue remaining on the sides, and a series of small surface scratches along the underside on the left panel. The breechblock and lever have a mottled gray patina with dark freckling throughout, and the center pin through the action sidewalls has been lightly peened on both sides. The walnut forend is in fine shape with an old added military oil finish over some minor handling marks and surface bruises. The buttstock is in identical condition, but also has a repaired chip on the left side of the wrist. The rifle does not come with a ramrod, however the front barrel band is an incorrect replacement (probably off of a Trapdoor rifle) and won't allow one to fit anyway. The rifle is mechanically excellent with strong springs and absolutely no play in the lever when closed. This is a great looking Borchardt, in very good-near fine condition, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique
