1850s Antique ALLEN & THURBER Deringer Pistol
Tiny .36 Caliber Pocket Pistol
Here we present an antique Allen & Thurber Double Action Bar Hammer Percussion Pistol, made from the 1830s to the Civil War. Only several thousand were made. This is the type of gun one might carry in a purse or pocket for self-defense in the 19th century and was very similar is size to Henry Deringer’s pistol. It features a single shot of .36 caliber ball and a double action mechanism.
The left side of the hammer is marked “ALLENS PATENT”. Modest scroll engraving throughout. The barrel is marked “1845/CAST STEEL/711”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces bear a gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is clear. The walnut grips are in good shape. The action on this pistol is strong.
