This Winchester Model 70 XTR Sporter Magnum in .300 Winchester Magnum is in beautiful all-original condition. While it is technically used, it has likely only been fired a handful of times since it left the factory. The Winchester Model 70 XTR Sporter was manufactured from 1985 until 1994 when it was discontinued. However, the XTR suffix was only used in the model name until 1989, when it was dropped. The Model 70 XTR Sporter features a high gloss blue factory finish, a 24" inch barrel with no iron sights, a 3-round internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, and a custom sporter-style deluxe checkered American Walnut Monte Carlo stock with a cheekpiece and with factory installed sling swivel studs and a factory recoil pad. The length of pull is 13.75" inches to the end of the pad. This example is serial number G1775915 and contains the "XTR" in the model name, which tells us that this rifle was built sometime between 1986 and 1989. It is in excellent condition overall, with what little deductions from the condition coming from being stored in a packed safe with too many other rifles rather than from wear from being carried and shot. The factory gloss blue finish rates 97%, with the only deductions coming from some small cosmetic scratches in the finish on the top of the barrel. The other visible marks in the finish on this rifle are not in the blue finish on the metal parts but rather in the black "paint" finish on the aluminum alloy triggerguard bow. There are several little nicks in the finish around the edges from beinged into other rifles. These little spots could be fixed by the new owner and made to be virtually undetectible with a black paint marker. The bore in this Model 70 XTR Sporter is minty and bright. The rifling still shows factory-new sharp lands and grooves in the rifling, and there is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible whatsoever. The checkered Walnut Monte Carlo sporter stock is also in excellent condition overall. It is free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/dents. Only under very close inspection can a few small storage marks be found. The factory sling swivel studs are still in place and the factory Winchester-branded recoil pad is tight to the wood, expertly fit, and in excellent condition. The checkering in the forearm and pistol grip is still clean and crisp, with no soiling or worn points. This rifle is chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum, a flat-shooting and hard-hitting cartridge capable of taking any big game in North America. The .300 Win Mag is known for being an inherently accurate cartridge, and capable of extreme accuracy at the longest of ranges. There is a wide variety of commerical ammunition available in this caliber for any specific need. This magnum chambering makes this Winchester a do-it-all rifle. All of the controls on this rifle work perfectly, and the action is smooth and precise. The bolt goes into battery perfectly, and the trigger is quite good, breaking with light pressure with no slop. This XTR Sporter Magnum comes with a period Bushnell Banner 4-12 variable power scope with a 40mm objective lens. This scope has a fast-focus eyepiece, an adjustable objective lens, and a standard duplex style reticle. All of the adjustments work properly and the optics are clear and bright, this scope will hold zero perfectly or Bushnell's lifetime warranty will fix it free of charge. It is mounted up on the rifle with a top-quality 1-piece Leupold base and Leupold rings. If you have been looking for a classy and well-made rifle for your collection this Winchester Model 70 XTR Magnum would be a perfect choice. All it needs is to be sighted-in and you can take it to the woods on your next deer/elk/bear hunt.
