ENGRAVED Antique RING Trigger BACON .36 Cal Pistol
Antebellum Single Shot Boot Pistol
Here we present an antique Bacon & Co. Ring Trigger Boot Pistol, made circa the 1850s by Thomas Bacon in Norwich, Connecticut. About 400 estimated produced. This pistol would have competed against the likes of Henry Deringer, Ethan Allen, and Samuel Colt in the years leading up to the American Civil War. This pistol would have been intended to be used for self-defense, and the barrel would have fit into the top of a boot. The 5-inch barrel is half-octagon, half-round. The frame is modestly engraved. The trigger is distinct in that it has a ring shape instead of having a trigger guard. Firing mechanism is single action. One barrel flat is marked “BACON & CO./NORWICH CT” and another is marked “CAST STEEL”. Assembly number is “65”.
The overall condition is very good. The markings and engravings are clear. The numbers match. The walnut grips are in good shape. The bore is in very good condition. The action is excellent. Here is a very neat little pistol that was on the cusp of the age of the revolver in the 1850s.
