Description:
EARLY 1873 2ND. MODEL ROUND BARREL RIFLE, .44-40 CALIBER, #56XXX, MADE 1880. This is a fine, uncleaned, original example that is becoming hard to find in this “honest” condition. The barrel has naturally aged to a light brown with some very aged blue in the protected areas. The mag tube is a darker, also uncleaned brown. The receiver is an attractive gray/brown with some traces of aged blue in the most protected areas and loading gate etc. All barrel markings are clear and the barrel is fitted with a buckhorn rear sight with Rocky Mountain blade front sight. Fine screws and uncleaned, unpolished and undented mellow brass lifter. Dust cover is intact. The stock and forend show normal handling with a few very shallow and worn-in dings and tight wood to metal fit. Bore is surprisingly fine with good rifling all the way through- could use a good scrubbing. In all, a very attractive early Second Model 1873 rifle that has not been messed with!
