Description:
The Real Cowboy Rifle, everyone is looking for! THE SHORT RIFLE. It was manufactured in 1881.  Serial number 68344. This Winchester 1873 short rifle in the desirable .44WCF (.44-40) caliber. The metal has been complete restored.  Only 20% of these were manufactured with the 24 inch barrel. The round barrel was the standard, but most were ordered with the octagonal barrel, that makes this round barrel a little rare. Originally these were completely finished in charcoal blue and that is what has done here. Collectors refer to this as the 2nd Model. The finish on this gun belied its true age and the stock and forearm look as though it left the factory yesterday. Action is tight and every bit as good as new. Bore has good strong shoot-able rifling with general black powder pitting. It always amazes me how those old boys could make a better shooter than repops of today. The original sights are still in place as they should be. This would look good in your saddle scabbard, or take it out and shoot it if you want to feel the thrill of yesteryear and the smell of GUNSMOKE. This is an antique and can be shipped directly to you. Adult signature required. The Gun that won the West.  Rifles like this were utility guns and they were especially popular with cowboys, lawmen, outlaws, and anyone who needed the firepower of a repeating rifle without the size or weight of the longer standard rifle.
