Description:
Rare Winchester Model 1876 Rifle in desirable Caliber 50-95 Express!  This is a beautiful rifle with much of the original blue remaining.  This one has the hard to find Standard 26" Octagon Barrel (the 50 CALs came standard with 26" instead of 28"), Full Magazine, Crescent Rifle Buttplate and a Special Order Single Set Trigger (It works too!).  Many 1876's in 50 Express were shipped to British colonies like India where features such as round barrels, button 1/2 magazines, and shotgun buttplates, were preferred over the standard American specs.  That said, its nice to find one made for the North American market with the Octagon Barrel and Crescent buttplate!  Serial number is in the 34,000 range and comes with a factory letter verifying everything 100%.  See Photos.

Being in the Express Caliber, this rifle has a couple special features not found on other Model 1876's.  In addition to the 50 Caliber markings on the top of the barrel and the brass loading block, the dust cover is stamped with the loading info: WINCHESTER EXPRESS 50 CAL.  95 GRS. The other unique feature to this rifle is that it used a flat rear sight with a special sight elevator.  Often missing after 130 years, this elevator has a unique set of graduations specifically for the 50 Express with the yardage increments stamped on the left side.  See Photos. All other caliber rifles used the ladder rear sight.  The special order adjustable single set trigger was a factory add-on requested by the customer.

Overall Condition is NRA Antique Fine Plus with 65% Original Blue remaining on the frame.  Loading port still has a good portion of its original fire blue.  Barrel and magazine tube retain 35% original faded blue with the balance turned to either plum or brown patina.  Hammer and lever have turned mostly brown with some silver traces of original case colors on the lever and some faint shadows of case on the hammer.  The bolt shows 20% original blue with some bright blue remaining on the bolt firing pin when it comes back to cock the hammer.  The action is nice and tight.  The bore is Fine, bright with nice lands and grooves and just a few minor pits.

On a side note: There is also a copy of a double factory letter (not pictured) from another collector which lists both this rifle and the rifle consecutively numbered to this one.  The letter shows the other rifle as identical in configuration to this one and was shipped to the same order number  11674 as this rifle.  It appears two collectors in the past discovered they both owned 50 Cal 1876's with consecutive serial numbers.  A photo-copied letter with that information will accompany the Factory letter to this rifle.

Nice example of an all correct and original Winchester 1876 in 50 Express in the configuration everyone is trying to find!
