Description:
SOLD

WWII era Springfield Armory M1 Garand. Serial number 10828xx, dates to November 1942. Barrel is Springfield, dated June 1943 with bright bore and very good gauge numbers. "GAW" marked stock with crossed cannons. No import marks. All parts are described below and shown in photos.

This Garand is in excellent used condition. It is a very good WWII restoration project, professionally done. Parts are mostly 1942-1943 production – all WWII except the gas cylinder lock screw and sling, which are new repro. All metal is freshly reparkerized; none ever pitted.

The gun does not appear to have been fired since the metal refinish, before we did some test firing. This M1 has the parts and appearance of a WWII Garand, for far less cost than a high-condition original.

The rifle has been disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and test fired. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.

Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and leather sling included.

SPECS:

Receiver: marked “D 28291 17” on leg, heat lot R46, excellent condition. This is a “two-tone” receiver – from a WWII heat treatment of the heel by being dipped in hot lead. This produces the dark appearance of the heel, which shows through any subsequent reparkerizing.

Barrel: marked “2-SA-6-43” with “P” and punch mark in op rod slot, also marked “D353448 27-Y-9-B” on top, with “M” and small crossed cannons stamp. Bore, crown and rifling are very good. No chrome pads at gas port.

Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear (MW): 1 Throat Erosion (TE): 2 1/2

Barrel band: two-piece flat top with solid pin

Clip latch: late square front type

Op rod: curved side, marked “D35382 6 SA”, unmodified.

Op rod catch: late type, unmarked

Bullet guide: WWII milled type

Follower: late type, marked “12”

Follower arm: single bevel, unmarked

Follower rod: long fork, riveted

Bolt: marked “D28287-12SA RE5B”

Sight knobs: SA lockbar with rounded ends; elevation checkered, windage knurled.

Rear sight cover: late type with ribs

Rear sight aperture: double track

Trigger housing:  marked “D28290-12-SA”

Trigger guard: milled SA, marked “T” inside

Trigger: late type, no extra hole

Hammer: marked “C46008-5 SA”

Hammer spring plunger: WWII type with wings

Gas cylinder: narrow sight platform, flat on top of rear ring marked “X”.

Front sight: .67 wide. Seal type screw, no cap

Gas cylinder lock: beveled front WWII type

Gas cylinder screw: single slot, we believe this is new repro

Stock: walnut, SA, app 1943 production, marked “S.A. G.A.W.” with crossed cannons on left side, circled “P” on pistol grip, small crossed cannons on bottom of pistol grip. Also marked “O.G.”, meaning it was with a rifle that was checked or rebuilt at Ogden Arsenal long ago. No cracks or repairs. This stock has been sanded a little, as it is unusually smooth, with only a few of the smallest handling marks, but not sanded excessively. Note no receiver or buttplate overhang. This was a very high condition stock before the minimal sanding.

Handguards: walnut, same condition and appearance as stock, except rear HG has a couple small spots of filler.

Accessories: cleaning rod set in bag, multitool and bore brush in another bag, grease pot. All fit into stock under trapdoor.

Sling: 1907 pattern, leather, new repro. This is not the expensive match shooting sling, just for carrying. Very strong, brass hooks and D-ring although the hook plate rivets are steel.
