Description:
This is a very nice vintage Ruger Mini-14, having spent the last 20 years unfired and in storage. Essentailly a scaled down version of the M-14 (hence Mini-14), the Mini-14 was originally designed as a select-fire carbine for military and police use. When it was not picked up for U.S. Military production the Ruger firm decided to market a semi-auto only design to the commerical market. The first year of production was 1978 and it has been produced almost continually since, with the design undergoing some minor changes along the way. This early example is serial number 183-24881 and was manufactured in 1982. It retains 97% of the original factory blue finish, with only a few small places of handling/finish wear visible under close inspection. The bore in this Mini-14 is pristine, it is bright and clean with no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible. The original hardwood stock is also in excellent condition. It is free from cracks, chips, repairs, or anything major damage. This stock has a great clean look to it, and the few very minor handling/storage marks it has accumulated over the years are only visible if you look very closely. The original glossy black plastic buttplate is in excellent condition and tight to the wood, and the sling swivels are still in place. Everything on this Ruger Mini-14 works 100% like the day it left the factory. The internals are as clean as the exterior, and it is our guess this carbine has only been fired a handful of times since leaving the factory. The action is nice and smooth but tight, and it goes into battery perfectly. The 2-stage trigger is quite good for a Mini-14, breaking with a light pull and just a little take-up at the 2nd stage. This Mini-14 comes with a factory original 5-round magazine as well as an original greenmaterial sling. If you have been looking for an all-original and un-modified early production Ruger Mini-14 for your collection, this example would be an excellent choice.
