Description:
This is a typical saber and measures 34 1/4" overall with a 28 3/4" slightly curved, unfullered blade with unmarked ricasso. The steel has about 90% of the original nickel plate remaining with scattered spots of dark freckling throughout, as well as some faint, brown oxidation near and just behind the tip. The hilt has the Imperial Japanese Army cherry blossom (ten petals) and retains 90% plus of the gilt finish with thin spots of brown tarnish throughout. The ridged composite grip is intact, but the braided wire wrap has partially unravelled. The steel scabbard has a few very minor dents, and retains about 50% of the nickel with the balance flaked to a dark plum-brown color with moderate surface pitting. This is an about good condition example of a Japanese parade sword overall.
