SCARCE STEVENS MODEL 425 HIGH POWER LEVER ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, #2XXX, IN THE RAREST CALIBER OFFERED, .25 REMINGTON. One of the more unusual rifles in the Stevens line and their only center fire repeater. These very high quality rifles were only made from 1910-1917. They were made in the rimless calibers .25 Rem., .30 Rem., .32 Rem. and .35 Rem. The small .25 Remington caliber is basically the rimless version of the .25-35 Winchester and very few of this model were chambered in this caliber. This is a good example with higher grade than standard walnut in the butt stock and forend- a good, proper cleaning of the wood would bring out the grain better. The barrel and mag show thinning aged blue. The receiver is mostly an aged gray with some aged blue. Fine wood with one very old and worn-in shallow chip at the toe that is very minor. Correct checkered crescent butt plate unique to this model. Tight action and excellent bore that is only a little dark and needs a good clean. Has the long blade/bead front sight with no barrel sight in the dovetail. Looks like it had a tang sight on at one time as the filler screws are gone from the factory drilled holes and there is an outline where the tang sight used to be- easy to replace the filler screws and find a common buckhorn rear sight for the barrel dovetail.
