Manufactured in 1939, this 4 inch barrel Military & Police .38 Revolver was sent back to S&W in the early 1960's and factory refinished. The date of refinish is stamped under the grips, 1/2/63, and the refinish star is stamped on the barrel, cylinder and frame. The pearl grips are interesting, and could have been crafted at the Wolf and Klar gun store in Fort Worh, Texas. W&K was a popular destination for cattleman and lawman, including Texas Rangers, and was one of Smith & Wesson's largest retailers. The carved steer head pearl grips, with ruby eyes, were one of their trade marks, and are found on Colt's as well as S&W's. Regardless, this gun is in beautiful condition, retaining virtually 100% of its redone nickel finish, very good bore, and near perfect pearl grips. And it could very well have a Texas connection.
