ENGRAVED Pair of Antique DOUBLE BARREL .43 Pistols
Mid-19th Century European Self-Defense Pistols
Here we present a Pair of European Antique Double Barrel Pocket Pistols, made circa the 1850s. These pistols were sold as a pair for the purpose of self-defense. Most pistols of this kind were only single barreled and took a minute to reload, so having multiple shots available was a huge advantage during this period. Having a pair of double barreled pistols gave the user much more firepower without having to carry a lot more gun. This pair features fluted wooden handles with nice engraving throughout the frame. Barrels are round and numbered “1” and “2” respective of the gun they belong to as the barrels would have been removed for loading without a ramrod. Triggers fold up into the frame so as not to get snagged while in a pocket.
The overall condition is very good. One pistols seems to have been carried more than the other but both remain in very similar condition. The metal surfaces still bear clear engraving with a mix of original finish and gray patina. The grips are solid and in great shape. The bores are smooth and dark. The actions are strong and crisp. Here is a very neat brace of pistols from the 19th Century!
