Description:
#0848 British (I think!!) mid-1800s sword with scabbard, unmarked except for an engraved “United States” logo positioned about 3” down from the throat, and some small marks on the quillion head (inspectors marks, perhaps?) It is very possible that this is one of the many Civil War imports of which there were tens of thousands of various sword and sabre models purchased from an assortment of European countries. Brass tri-guard, leather grip having no losses and wrapped with brass braid wire, iron scabbard with leather strap and brass belt hook (leather strapping is no doubt less than 50-years old). Overall about Fine+ with no dents or rust on the scabbard, bright full-length blade with a lot of luster and VG edge. A VERY nice import sword used and one purchased by BOTH sides during the War; may well be worth exploring the marking. About Fine+ as described. $345
