Antique VAN WART, Son & Company Belt Pistol
LONDON Marked Belt Pistol
Here we present an antique Van Wart, Son & Company Target Pistol, made circa 1860 in London, England. Van Wart was primarily a dealer who purchased arms in England and exported them to the American market. Many of his customers were located in the southern United States shortly before the Civil War where dueling was popular and English arms were high in favor.
The top of the barrel is marked “LONDON”. The lock is marked “VAN WART, SON & CO”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is smooth and dark. The action on this pistol is strong.
