Description:
This is a handsome old skinning/utility knife from the fur trade era c. 1830's - 1840's. Very well made, solid construction with a crown stag antler handle with intitials "KC" hand carved into the butt. It shows very old, hand worn patina on the handle. The thin blade is 6-3/4" and overall length is 11".

A very interesting feature is the initials "KC" hand carved into the butt of the stag grip. I can only think of two, maybe three names of an American male living in this period who's first name would start with "K" one would be Kit Carson. It could never be proven but the possibility that the knife belonged to the famous mountain man isn't too far fetched considering the knife is the type a mountain man would carry and it's antiquity puts it in the right era when Kit Carson was in the Rocky Mountains trapping animals.  If I had any provenance that added anything to the hypothisis I would ask more for the knife but since it's only speculation the price is $995
