Description:
Inv.6578   Remington 1858 New Model Army Factory Conversion. Cal . 44 Center Fire, Ser. 587XX.
Certainly you collectors should have a at least one of of these very scarce factory conversions. It seems that after the Civil War Colt and Remington found they gad  small quantities of percussion pistol parts just after the cartridge pistols came on the scene. Rather than discard them they converted them to cartridge and offered them tfor sale at slightly reduced prices. This factory conversion is in really nice condition. The frame and barrel group have acquired a soft silver patina. There are no rust patches or dings just a few tiny scattered pinpricks. The cylinder has retained almost all of a darker blue/gray finish also without rust or nicks. The brass trigger guard has the expected aging but shows no wear. The walnut grips have very little of the original factory finish but except for a few dings on the the bottom are in great condition. None of the gun's screws have been damaged. The bore is awesome, mirror bright with razor sharp rifling and just a hint of scattered frost. For some reason the barrel, trigger guard, and frame (under the grips} are stamped "67". It has been suggested that this was some kind of National Guard rack number. This factory conversion would make an outstanding addition to any Civil War era collection........$2395 Shipped.
