This is an early Springfield Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine. This Model 1873 U.S. Trapdoor Carbine Serial#230575 Has a 22" round barrel with a very good bore. 45-70 Caliber. Metal is Blued with some Case Hardening remaining. Solid Hardwood Stock. Shows smoothing and handling marks. Has the number "18" stamped in toe end of stock. Has oil refinished surfaces. Buttplate marked "US" on top. Lockplate marked, "U.S. /MODEL/1873". Top of reciever under hammer is marked, "230575". Has the rear Carbine sight graduated to 1200 yards. .
