Description:
This Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver was found in Texas years ago. It was made in 1896, caliber is .45 Colt, and has all matching numbers in the 164,000 range.  It comes with a Factory Letter stating it was shipped to Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri on April Fools Day 1896 in a shipment of 5 guns.  Letters perfectly as a 4 3/4" Nickel in .45 Caliber. Standard 4-3/4" barrel with nickel finish, and checkered hard rubber grips. It has good legible markings throughout with decent screws and solid original grips (numbered to the gun) with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The metal is mostly a light brown patina with 10% original nickel remaining...mostly towards the back of the frame, top and bottom of the backstrap, under the bow of the trigger guard, and a little left on the front strap. There are a few traces in the corners and protected areas as well. Original hammer has the early correct style long checkered pattern. The ejector rod still shows some original nickel inside the ejector housing encapsulated by its original bronze spring. Even the screws look to be original to the gun. Barrel is the original 4-3/4" that has never been cut with the original front sight intact and unaltered. The top of the barrel has the correct two-line Colt address with two-line patent dates on left side of frame. The Action is Very Good. The bore is your typical 19th century black powder era bore; Fair+ but should clean up to Good. If you're looking for a good original Colt Single Action with honest frontier-era wear, this one is a solid example. It's not very often that we find untouched ones like this!
