Offered is a rare Springfield Model 1871 single shot rifle based on the famous Remington "Rolling Block" action. Only 10,001 of these rifles were manufactured from 1871 to 1872 and issued to the U. S. Army. This rifle is in overall very good plus with light greying and blimishes on the barrel and reciever, sevral small dings on the wood, excellent bore and in excellent mechanical condition, with all parts matching. It comes with an authentic period leather sling that is new. I can not find any inspector's marks on the wood so must assume that these have been removed sometime in the past, there is also a small chip of wood missing on the rear underside of the forearm. I have not found any serial number on this rifle.
