Description:
Here is a neat item, a full box of 45-70 loaded ammo, dated May 25, 1891, produced by the Frankford Arsenal.  One end is open the other is almost opened and the string loose.  These cartridges were an improvement to the Morse cartridge which was designed to be components, but after the cost was found prohibitive, the tinned brass case remained until about 1895-ish, and is referred to as the Model 1888 cartridge.  This is nearing the end of the US production of the 45-70 as the 30-40 krag found favor with the Army.  The head stamp says F for Frankford Arsenal and 5 91 indicating May 1891 date of manufacture which matches the box date stamp. Shipping will be $12.
