Description:
Winchester Model 1876 lever action rifle. Serial Number #49112, manufactured in 1878. .40-60 Caliber. 28" full octagon barrel with full magazine a very good bore showing strong rifling with some very light pitting througout. Magazine has one small wear spot on the bottom. Metal is very good overall with 75% thinning blue finish remaining on octagon barrel and magazine. Receiver has approx. 25% of original finish, balance mellow patina. but shows some strong remnants of original blue in the more protected areas. The lever and the hammer show some remnants of case coloring. Markings remain quite clear. The nicely figured ,smooth American walnut forend ,and straight grip buttstock remain in about very good condition having darkened from the years with mostly worn finish, scattered small dings, scratches, but no signs of finish removal or sanding is present. Crescent butt with trap for cleaning rods . (none included). The rifle is sighted with a pattern 1876 ladder rear sight with graduations to 1,000 yards and a sporting blade front sight. Brass cartridge carrier is marked "40-60". Barrel has the Winchester two line address with caliber designation ("CAL 40-60").
