SOLD - This Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless, Model M, Type 1 left the factory in 1904 per serial number 12562. Unmolested and completely original.
Colt started shipping the first Pocket Hammerless Pistols July 18, 1903. This is a rare opportunity to own a 2nd year production Colt 1903 Model M (Pocket Hammerless). This Type 1 (1st Model) has a 4" barrel with barrel bushing. These Type 1 Colt Pocket Autos ranged from deep blue-black to a jet-black with charcoal-oven heat treatment over a mirrored polish. The Type II came along 4/10/1908 and had a 3.75" barrel with the barrel bushing. In 1911 the barrel bushing was eliminated completely, and an integrated barrel was incorporated going forward.
On this Type 1 Model M, the small parts, slide lock safety, slide lock safety retaining screw, extractor, magazine release, magazine follow and recoil spring plus, grip screw and all pins were heat treated to a brilliant, almost iridescent fire-blue finish.
This 114-year-old Colt functions perfectly and is in good condition per the photos with the left side showing freckling conducive of age. Obviously stored left side down. Magazine is original to this pistol and the grips are perfect.
