“C.S.A.” Marked BELGIAN Antique Model 1842 MUSKET
Carved with Initials
Here we present an antique Belgian Model 1842 Percussion Musket, manufactured circa the 1850s in Liege, Belgium. This musket was imported in large quantities during the Civil War as both parties in the conflict were desperate for small arms.
The lock is marked “C.S.A.” This one appears to have been shortened at some point with the foremost barrel band off another gun entirely. Sling swivels are attached on the end barrel band and at the front of the trigger guard. It has a back action lock with a large hammer. Initials were carved into both sides of the butt stock.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces have a mostly dark gray patina. The markings are legible. The bore is smooth and dusty. The walnut stocks are solid. The action is strong.
