BRACE of British Antique RICHARD BOOTH Pistols
Gunmaker in Sunderland, England
Here we present a Brace of Antique Richard Booth Pocket Pistols, made in Sunderland, England circa the 1840s. Richard Booth was at least a second generation gunmaker after his father with a career spanning from about the mid-1820s to the early 1850s. His business was located at 200 High Street in Sunderland, very near River Wear, the eastern coast, and River Tyne just a little further North. These little pistols would have been contemporaneous to Henry Deringer of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the U.S. and would have served the same purpose of self-defense.
These little pistols have large .48 caliber bores that would have made their single shot capacities count. The right sides of the frame are both marked “SUNDERLAND”. The left sides are marked “RICH’D BOOTH”.
The overall condition of both pistols is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stocks are in good shape. The bores are smooth and dark. The actions on these two pistols are strong. Here is a great little set from mid-19th Century Northeastern England!
